Requirements
Gjerset & Lorenz is interested in attorneys who
want to excel in the field of health care law. Not all
attorneys currently practicing at Gjerset & Lorenz
had prior experience in health care. While a background
in health care is not a prerequisite to be considered
for employment with us, a dedication to professional
excellence is.
Our
attorneys graduated from many different law schools
in different geographic regions varying from Washington
D.C. to California on the coasts, Michigan and Texas
in the heartland. We encourage law students from across
the country with excellent academic credentials and
an interest in health care law to contact us.
As
a small firm we place a premium on creativity, teamwork
and continued development. Our attorneys support, encourage
and rely on each other. Any attorney who joins us must
be prepared to embrace fully the concept of teamwork
and to support his or her colleagues as needed.
Professional
Development
Our attorneys are our most important resource and we
are committed to providing the training that will enable
our associates to become outstanding lawyers. Associates
are given ongoing input regarding their performance
and a formal evaluation once a year.
Associates are given opportunities to work in all areas
of Gjerset & Lorenz’s practice. We want each
associate to develop a solid understanding of the fundamental
legal and business issues facing our clients as well
as the different ways we serve our clients to enable
them to use that foundation for further learning and
professional development.
Compensation
Gjerset & Lorenz attorneys receive highly competitive
salaries and benefits. Associates are expected to bill
1900 hours per year. Associates who meet this requirement
are eligible for a bonus. Annual bonuses are tied to
quality client input and productivity as well as each
associate’s accomplishments and contribution to
the firm. Once a year we formally review each associate’s
progress and adjust salaries. We carefully evaluate
each attorney’s total contribution, recognizing
team effort as well as individual contribution.

Partnership
Eligibility
Gjerset & Lorenz encourages all associates to strive
for partnership. We are committed to hiring and developing
outstanding lawyers and our expectation is that all
lawyers who join us have the ability to qualify for
partnership in the firm.
Partnership
eligibility is based on an associate’s actual
accomplishments rather than adherence to a lockstep
system. In order to be considered for partnership an
attorney must consistently demonstrate the following:
- High degree of legal expertise
- Ability to work independently
and manage multiple ongoing projects
- Commitment to clients: willingness
to work at the convenience of clients to get the job
done timely and correctly
- Exceptional initiative
- Ability to work effectively
with lawyers, staff and clients
- Effective practice administration
- High productivity in terms
of billable hours
